Name a fad you’re thankful is OVER.
There are so many but I think the fad that drove me the craziest looking back was crimped hair. You would have to see the monster that I call hair on a “bad day” to understand but when you take hair like mine and try to make it messy and frizzier it will oblige. Crimping hair came and went and I think it’s even come back again but thankfully I’m wise enough now to sit back, laugh and leave my damn hair alone 🙂
Let’s face it, most of us looked that silly with crimped hair 🙂
For as long as I can remember I've been a princess. My family treated me like one growing up and after the red left my hair I've looked like one as well. I have employees from refugee camps that call me “white snow” for crying out loud. It's never really bothered me and most days I strive to maintain the image, porcelain skin and all. Sunday afternoon my striving took a turn for the gross and now I suddenly have a weaping wound surrounding my mouth.
Yes blisters, and lots of them. Knowing my skin can be sensitive I should have known better than to put a new after wax oil on, but what could possibly go wrong?? Oh I don't know cracked oozing sores surrounding my mouth, no big deal right. Apparently it was a big deal. Whenever a doctor walks into a room, says “wow”, asks to take pictures to send a colleague and then starts hashing over the thought of sending you to the burn unit, it's bad. Turns out second degree burns (which is apparently what this has turned into) can be cared for, with some diligence, at home. I agreed to apply required creams seven to eight times per day and headed off to pick up said creams at the pharmacy that the burn unit was sending them to.
I wish I could tell you that this post was to tell you I've warded off possibly harmful beauty treatments, but it's not. I will make sure to patch test from now on but a leopard doesn't change her spots. I would like to whine about my terribly inconvenient and I'll timed skin sensitivity, but it could always be worse. Actually since I didn't drive myself to work I had a gorgeous tour of campus both walking and riding the bus. Maybe I just wanted to illustrate the age old saying that beauty is pain, and possibly I just wanted to share the disgusting picture of my face.
Probably more the latter 🙂
