If you could live a nomadic life, would you? Where would you go? How would you decide? What would life be like without a “home base”?
As a kid I had what was an unfortunately nomadic lifestyle. Until I bought my house six years ago, I can honestly say I didn't have a home base to speak of. I wouldn't do it again, I couldn't do it again.
I won't say I had a horrible childhood but I wouldn't wish it on anyone else that's for sure. As loving as my father was, responsible adult was not how you could classify him. More times than I could count we were asked “nicely” to leave wherever we were living for lack of payment or simply because he was bored of us living there. When we moved to the civilian housing in Dugway Proving Grounds you have no option but to move every two to three years. The houses there were nice but you never lived in one long enough to make it “home”. Quite often you have to move so that they can remodel the houses, which makes for well maintained houses but not homes.
Some day when they drag my rotting corpse from my house they will have to pry my cold dead hands from a door frame or wall or something. While I may downsize or upgrade my current home I could never be nomadic, I need somewhere I can collapse at the end of the day and know it's mine. I think at this point I deserve that. I don't plan on going anywhere often or permanently that is too far for me to walk to. 🙂
