Is there a painting or sculpture you’re drawn to? What does it say to you? Describe the experience. (Or, if art doesn’t speak to you, tell us why.)
I am a bit odd when it comes to art, or so I’ve been told. My current favorite “stuff” consists of human teeth and waffles :). While perusing the Urban Arts Gallery recently I stumbled upon my current favorite. Abraham the Oktas may in fact be as odd as I am, but I find his work amusing and that’s about all I’m looking for these days.
There is one painting that has always been my favorite. When I went to college in long beach I had to take art history, so it isn’t for lack of exposure to different arts either. “The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh will always be my favorite, and believe me I’ve tried to find another. Given the popularity of the painting it’s amusing to me that most people have no idea that he painted it while in an asylum, because he was bat shit crazy. Perhaps that explains my fascination with it? Maybe I just really really like blue, but I can’t say I love many of his other “blue” paintings, except for the one with the missing ear. 🙂
I remember when I painted my bedroom ALL blue thinking, I wish I was gifted enough to paint starry night on my ceiling. Of course I never would have slept because my mind already races enough, but the thought is still there.
I do love many different artists, and the stories behind them, but Van Gogh is at the top. What can I say? I like the crazies 🙂
And now a few things that drew my attention at the Utah Arts Festival last weekend 🙂
